Gold and silver are under heavy selling pressure today, sending
leveraged bearish ETFs sharply higher. ProShares UltraShort Silver
(NYSE: ZSL) climbed nearly 14% to trade around $23.88, while Direxion
Daily Junior Gold Miners Index Bear 2X Shares (NYSE: JDST) jumped more
than 15% to $41.14. These inverse products, designed to deliver twice
the opposite daily performance of silver and junior gold miners
respectively, are capitalizing on a swift downside move in the
underlying assets.
Spot silver is trading at $68.90 US down 4.86 (-6.58%). Spot gold is
at $4,350.90 US down 123.50 (-2.76%).
The ProShares UltraShort Silver (NYSE: ZSL) makes the NYSE top percentage gainer list, currently trading at
$23.88 +2.93 (+13.99%).
Direxion Daily Junior Gold Miners Index Bear 2X Shares
(NYSE: JDST) also makes the top gainers list on the NYSE, trading at $41.14
+5.63 (+15.85%)
Today’s gains in ZSL and JDST underscore the short-term risks in
precious metals tied to U.S. economic data and interest rate
expectations. However, the longer-term fundamentals – ranging from
reserve diversification to industrial tailwinds – remain firmly
supportive.
